The Broken Destiny

Hello everyone! Today we have the author of the upcoming novel, The Broken Destiny, Carlyle Labuschagne, with us! She will be talking about some of her favorite books to read! Welcome, Carlyle!

Thank you Ivy for having me over as a guest blogger today.
Love the blog, honored really. :)

Books are very much an addiction to many. I read because I enjoy it, but as a writer I learn a lot from other books and authors. There is an abundant of gifted Authors I have read and yet to read. I am one of those readers who are swept away totally by a read. I am there within every book I read. My imagination allows for it. And unfortunately I am also one of those readers who needs to be sucked in from the word go. I rate my books by the pleasure they give me. Unless the writing was outstanding this was the case with Wither by Lauren De Stephano. I think we are addicted to our imaginations more than anything , but what would our imaginations be without reading and for the talented Authors to ignite it for us? Books to me are a work of art, they are feelings, thoughts, souls between the pages of books. Considered sacred by many. I love everything about books, the smell, the feel and the look – and Wow are covers magnificent creatures on their own.

Books I Love

I am a total YA junkie, all things fantasy, magical, paranormal. My favorite genre is Science Fiction.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

In a future Chicago, 16-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose among five predetermined factions to define her identity for the rest of her life, a decision made more difficult when she discovers that she is an anomaly who does not fit into any one group, and that the society she lives in is not perfect after all.

I loved the characters, absolutely enthralled by the entire world Veronica Roth had created. Fast paced and intense. Enjoyment level 5 stars.

Insurgent coming to us May the first. So on my pre order list!

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder. When Amy is frozen aboard the interstellar spaceship Godspeed, she expects to be woken in 300 years on a new planet. Instead, someone wakes her up early…and if Amy doesn’t figure out soon, the next people woken up might not survive–including her parents.

We all adore strong female character leads. Because woman can be strong, vulnerable and sassy all at the same time, they can cry , get angry, and kick ass in one paragraph.

The sequel released in January 2012 . I have not read A Millions Suns yet, but is def. on my emergency buy list.

Exiled by RaShelle Workman

Worlds divided them. Chance brought them together. Only love will save them. An alien princess exiled to Earth. An arrogant boy. One week to get back to her planet or she’ll die. And, her only chance for survival? She must help the boy find his soul mate.

Venus finds herself in all kinds of trouble. Lots of OH NO! moments. She is lovely and a Warrior woman at heart. Fast paced plot and scenes. I cannot wait to see what worlds we will find us in within the Immortal Essence series holds.

I gave Exiled 4 out of 5 Stars

When it comes to fantasy there is one Author for me, Kristin Cashore.

Bitterblue is her third novel in the series also on my pre-order list.

Eight years after Graceling, Bitterblue is now queen of Monsea. But the influence of her father, a violent psychopath with mind-altering abilities, lives on. Her advisors, who have run things since Leck died, believe in a forward-thinking plan: Pardon all who committed terrible acts under Leck’s reign, and forget anything bad ever happened. But when Bitterblue begins sneak.

First book Graceling
Second book and my favorite, Fire.

I gave Graceling and Fire 5 out of 5 stars. Very much enjoyed the world Cashore brought to life, her female characters are resilient, gorgeous Warriors. Just pure awesomeness. The men swoon worthy. The abilities the people have in her books are like any I have experienced in the way they come to play in the Seven Kingdoms. Sensual and action packed scenes kept me turning pages with haste. There is no world I have ever entered like that of the realms created in her books.

As for Paranormal…

The Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick delivers the breathtaking conclusion to the “New York Times”-bestselling Hush, Hush saga. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in each other, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they’ve worked for–and their love–forever.

Five out of Five stars. YA crush love Patch (swoon) when things go wrong they go horribly wrong. And when they are intense I can hardly stand it. Definitely want to see this series made into film. The covers are magnificent and powerful. As is the content.

Finale releases in October. *happy dance*

Other Paranormal books I treasure
A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young
Fury by Elizabeth Miles
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
Fang by James Patterson
